Hops After the Battle

Hops After the Battle

Hops got his tail caught in a door early Monday morning. I closed my office door and the tip of his tail was jammed by one of the hinges. Hops screamed and jumped away, leaving about an inch of tail stuck in the door. Most of the bone, however, was still attached to him and sticking out of where the tip of his tail used to be. At that point all hell broke loose. Anyhow, Hops is recovering from surgery to amputate the damaged bits. He is not, however, happy about having to wear this cone on his head for the next ten days.

R.I.P. Blind Tiger Alehouse

Again, a late post. The Blind Tiger Alehouse closed on December 27, 2005. They claim they'll open in a new location soon. Keep your fingers crossed.....

Greasy Tony's (Soprano)

I know, I know.... All this stuff is over two months old now. Anyhow, I was in Arizona to watch Rutgers in the Insight Bowl. I'll post some pictures of the pep rally, pre-game party, and game soon.

So, after the game Shelly and I got lost leaving the stadium and got on Interstate 10 going the wrong way. As a result, we had to drive North through Tempe to get back to Scottsdale. We drive by the ASU campus and I decide to stop off at Greasy Tony's. You know, the same Greasy Tony's that used to be on Easton and Somerset streets in New Brunswick, NJ, until he was evicted in 1992 for a new dormitory. He's now out in Tempe and there is still no charge for the extra grease. Anyhow, I know that there will be other Rutgers fans there so we decide to stop in. It's a dump, just like his place in New Brunswick was. I park and as I approach the building Shelly notices a limo parked on the side of the building. As I pass the outside seating area, James Gandolfini is sitting there eating a cheesesteak and says "Hey, more Rutgers people." So I end up eating at Greasy Tony's with James Gandolfini and about ten other RU people. Pretty cool. What could be more Jersey than that?

I didn't take any photos, though. I didn't want to be that guy. So here's a photo taken by someone else at the game when James came out for the coin toss.

Here are before and after photos of Greasy Tony's (with links to the original photos).

Mmmmmm.... [hiccup].... Donuts......

I know it's been too long since I've updated the 'ole Narwhal. You can all stop sending me emails scolding me about my lack of diligence in posting. Here's one to get this thing back on track:

I was in Puerto Pensasco, Mexico in December 2005. An interesting place that I may blog more about. I now think of it as the home of boozy pastry. Across the street from our hotel was:

Yes, Drunk'n Donuts. You can find it on Av. Sinaloa. Home of "Coffee, Donuts, Cold Beer". Mis amigos del anillo de espuma. Here is a closeup of my friends en la noche:
