I've decided to upload some of my favorite pictures to flickr and now I'm in a photoblogging mood.

This is a pictogram from a German train. It seems that smoking is verboten but nosepicking is okay. Or at least that's one interpretation

Saw The Bravery last night at Northsix in Brooklyn. I do believe they are the "Real Deal". Unfortunately, the pix I took suck as I forgot to bring in the digital camera and was forced to use my Palm Zire 71 which takes shit pictures in low light. Fortunately Amy Salzman was with us and had a good camera. Once she emails them to me I'll put them up here.

Best New Music of 2005

I intend to post my list of best music and best concerts of 2004 but have not yet had the time to put together a truly thoughtful list. In the meantime I've found two really cool bands that deserve to be huge.

First is Bloc Party. I've been hearing a buzz about these guys for several months in the UK music press and caught their video for "Banquet" on MTV2's Subterranean. Snatch the following tracks:

The Answer
Banquet (Phones Disco Edit)
Tulips
Staying Fat

Or stream videos of Banquet (Windows Media) or Little Thoughts (Real Player).

Too lazy to download? Well, they sound a bit like Gang of Four crossed with Joy Division, punked up. Unfortunately Bloc Party does not have any announced dates in the US yet. But their album Silent Alarm comes out on March 22, 2005 so keep your ears open for tour announcements.

So I'm looking for more info on Bloc Party and I come across this BBC article, Sound of 2005, where they asked critics to predict the top music acts of 2005. Well, they were pretty successful in 2004 in tapping Keane and Franz Ferdinand. Anyhow, Bloc Party is only listed at number 2. The act tipped at number one is The Bravery. Even though they're from NYC, somehow these guys flew totally under my radar but damn if they aren't good. Think Strokes crossed with Interpol. Stream their music at their website.

And The Bravery is playing Brooklyn's Northsix on Saturday, January 29, 2005 and as I post this, tickets are still available!

It looks like they might also be opening for Ash in a few months time.

Time to start my Best of 2005 list right now....

Came across this sign today in the restroom of a Panera Bread. What disease(s) are they trying to control??? And, more importantly, why are spanish speakers being told to wash but not told why? I'm glad I've finally been taught why I'm supposed to wash... I always thought it was to make my hands smell like flowers....
